HARBOR CRANE ARRIVES AT ALABAMA STATE DOCKS

A new Gottwald harbor crane has arrived at Alabama State Docks. It is being assembled and will be ready for use at Piers 5 and 2 within two to three weeks. The crane, manufactured in Germany, arrived on a Splietoff heavy lift vessel, the ATLASGRACHT. The new crane has a 110-ton lift capacity with a 75-foot reach. The consulting engineering firm is Gottlieb, Barnett and Bridges; the agent is Inchcape, and the stevedore is Tri-State.  The new crane will be used to increase container movements at the main docks complex while planning and preparation is being made for a major intermodal/container terminal at Choctaw Point (near McDuffie Terminals).
