HARBOR CRANE ARRIVES AT ALABAMA STATE DOCKS

Harbor CraneA new Gottwald harbor crane has arrived at Alabama State Docks. It is being assembled and will be ready for use at Piers 5 and 2 within two to three weeks. The crane, manufactured in Germany, arrived on a Splietoff heavy lift vessel, the ATLASGRACHT. The new crane has a 110-ton lift capacity with a 75-foot reach. The consulting engineering firm is Gottlieb, Barnett and Bridges; the agent is Inchcape, and the stevedore is Tri-State.  The new crane will be used to increase container movements at the main docks complex while planning and preparation is being made for a major intermodal/container terminal at Choctaw Point (near McDuffie Terminals).
