Receives Prestigious Award from United States Coast Guard
Captain
David Carey, Harbormaster of the ports of Mobile and Theodore, was
honored by the United States Coast Guard at a ceremony recently in New
Orleans. The surprise announcement was made at Coast Guard Industry Day
Luncheon at the Fairmont Hotel. Captain Carey was presented the
Meritorious Public Service Award “in recognition of notable services
which have assisted greatly in furthering the aims and functions of the
Coast Guard.”
Captain
Carey has been Harbormaster in Mobile for nine years and is an employee
of Alabama State Docks. His honor was also for performing leadership
positions with other maritime related organizations. His leadership
includes chairman of the Board of Directors of the Catholic Maritime
Club, vice-chairman of the Mobile Maritime Committee, vice president of
the Propeller Club of Mobile, and member of the Board of Directors of
the Mobile Navy League.
He was
saluted for being friend, advisor and mentor to each Captain of the Port
of Mobile and for being a cornerstone in building strong partnerships
between the local maritime community and the Coast Guard. The citation
also read that, “His steadfast service to the Port has served as a
model for all agencies and industries within the maritime community.”
His
awards include a presentation folder with citation signed by Rear
Admiral Paul J. Pluta, Commander, Eighth Coast Guard District, a lapel
pin designating the honor, and ribbon
medals. Admiral Pluta made the presentation.
